Juniper, a type of evergreen tree, grows mainly in the plains regions of Europe as well as in other parts of the world.
Juniper berries have been used to treat digestive disorders such as belching, heartburn, and bloating, as well as menstrual problems and diabetes. Its effectiveness for these conditions has not, however, been verified.
Juniper Berries are also used to treat fluid retention, rheumatism and arthritis.
Juniper Berries should not be taken for more than 6 weeks continuously due to potential damage to the kidneys, and anyone with kidney disease or on diuretic drugs should avoid Juniper Berries. Avoid in renal disease and in pregnancy.
Combine 1 cup of boiling water with 1g of crushed Juniper Berries and infuse for 15 – 20 minutes. Drink 2 cups a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.
