Cenovis® Folic Acid 500mcg may reduce the risk of having a child with spina bifida or neural tube defects if taken daily for one month before conception and during pregnancy. Users of the contraceptive pill may require additional folic acid, particularly if planning a pregnancy soon. Adequate folic acid intake also helps maintain a healthy cardiovascular system.
Folate is a water soluble B group vitamin and can be found in most plant foods, especially green vegetables, wholegrain breads and cereals, peas and dried beans.
Because of it's water solubility, folate quickly leaves the body, hence the need for it to be supplied daily. Additional folate is destroyed by cooking so determining intake from food alone can be difficult.
